NEXT GENERATION OF BICYCLE
Cycling is a
very efficient and effective mode of transportation optimal for short to
moderate distances. Bicycles provide numerous benefits compared to motor
vehicles, including exercise, an alternative to the use of fossil fuels,
no air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion,
easier parking, greater maneuverability, and access to both roads
and paths. In cities the bicycle is not an integral part of the planned
transportation system; commuters often use bicycles as elements of
a mixed-mode commute, where the bike is used to travel to and from train
stations or other forms of rapid transit. Some students who commute several
miles drive a car from home to a campus parking lot, and then ride a bicycle to
class. Folding bicycles are useful in these scenarios.
Petrol crises in
present and coming years with its higher price, traffic growth and CO2
emission in environment are going to be major problems in transportation
system. To overcome from this entire Bicycling is going to be milestone. To
promote bicycling govt. also working and other small communities are also
promoting such kind of activities. To make bicycling better Pankaj kamatkar M. Tech.
student of IPS Academy, Indore come up with a low cost folding bicycle.
Earlier during
his schooling, he saw a folding bicycle on television and he liked the concept
of it, and searched the market for the availability of such kind of bicycle.
That time and today also only imported folding bicycle are available in Indian
market and cost around 30,000 Rs. Starting price. Due to poor family background
he can’t afford such kind of high investment in that folding bicycle. Then he thought
to make such kind of bicycle in very low cost for general people who cannot
afford such high cost of folding bicycle. During pursuing engineering in off
time he worked on designs and all other aspects of bicycle designs.
He told that “The main goal of
his design is to making MORE IN LESS
resources, FOR MORE people IN LESS money.”

case too, even just because of cost I came to this solution so that a normal
mango people can afford it IN LESS money.
Pankaj kamatkar
has developed a low cost folding bicycle with so many features. Before making
original one, Pankaj Kamatkar made a fully working model of folding bicycle
with thermocol to understand the functionality of each and every part. After
nine months of work he comes up with a fully working model of his designed
folding bicycle of 11kg of weight, which can be folded in a small size of 30” X
27” within just 10 to 15 Seconds. He designed a unisex frame design so that not
only a man, a woman can also ride it. Apart from that its adjustable feature
allow rider to adjust the height and shape of bicycle according to his comfort
and safety. It is a kind of family bicycle from a 5th class child to
60 year old man can ride it with so much ease and comfort. The lower rotating
mass of the small wheel compared to conventional bicycle, facilitates faster
acceleration. It provides better stability due to lowered center of gravity. Folding
is not just only feature of this bicycle which makes it interesting. Other
features of this bicycle are –
Seat and handle height Adjustability – cyclist can change the
height of seat and handle of bicycle according to his need and the main thing
is that there is no need of any tool for it.
Folding time – It require just few seconds to make it fold and
there is no need of any kind of tool for it. The 3 steps easy folding system
takes just 15 seconds to make it fold or unfold, because each second is
valuable for you.
Light weight – the total weight of this bicycle is 11 kg, it’s very
light to carry it anywhere with you.
Carry like a Trolley bag – the another feature of it is after
folding it we can carry it like a trolley bag, so there is no weight it has
after all. It helps to take it into railway station, bus station and elevators
without making sweat. With this function it also work on escalator ( moving
staircase ) to go up and down in shopping mall and stations.
Chain cover – the special plastic piped chain system makes it a bit
different from general chain guards/covers this chain cover is noiseless,
rotate with the chain, easily replaceable and eco-friendly. It protects chain
from dust and keeps the chain lubricated up to two months after one time lubrication
of chain. With this kind of design we just removed the stain problem due to
chain, now rider can wear whatever he want and forget about stains.
Folding paddle- its folding paddles are make it more attractive and
space saving thing.
Hub Bearings – the hub bearing are replaced with bearing which are
used in highly commercial industrial machines. This help to make it less
maintenance bicycle as compare to others.
Unique folding carrier – an especially unique carrier is also
designed for this folding bicycle and it’s not end here this special carrier
having a property of folding. When it is not coming in use it can be folded to
avoid the use of extra spaces. It can be extended according to the size of
luggage we want to carry. This folding carrier can also be used in any other
kind of bicycle and easily dismountable.
No more parking Problem – it help to forget about parking problem.
After folding we can park 24 such kind of bicycle in place of just one car.
Even in high rise apartments you can just take it into your apartment and hang
it on the wall or put it below table. It saves lots of space for others.
The
